PLYMOUTH - As the holiday vacation comes to a close for most schools in northern Indiana, the Indiana High School state bowling tournament is scheduled to begin its run to the state finals. Last weekend, LaVille participated in the Michiana West Conference Championships at Chippewa Bowl. The LaVille boys team made a great run at the conference title, while the Lancer girls returned to full strength and made some noise. "I believe that we had a very good showing during the conference championships, both boys and girls," said LaVille coach Kevin Kubsch. "The girls made some great strides in improving their game now that Trinity Pickett is back from her injury status and we now have a full team. We saw some good things during their conference championship event and I believe that will equate to a strong run during Sectionals."The boys had an outstanding Conference Championship with the second highest pin total for the boys side of the conference championship with only Rochester having 27 more pins than what we bowled. The boys performed solidly during the match." With conference momentum to build on and a little over a week to work on their game, Kubsch says his teams worked on improving in areas that sometimes aren't always covered."The practices over break were some fundamentals," Kubsch said of LaVille practice time. "Working on spares and release points and then bowling Baker Games to get into the type of mindsets needed for that type of game. Both the boys and girls were working hard during practice to get ready for this weekend." According to Kubsch, the ladies will start things off at 9 .m., with the boys to follow around 1 p.m."Both the girls and the boys will just relax and make good quality first shots and not put themselves in position to have to shoot at difficult spares. The strikes will come but spares are the key to having a chance at moving on to the sectional championship step ladder finals. Spares are what will be needed to win and possibly move onto Regionals." The top three teams are scheduled to advance to the Michigan City Regional, while the top four boys teams punch their ticket to the regional round. In the bowling state tournament, there is also an individual portion to go with the team event. On the girls side, the top 12 girls move onto the Regionals, while the top 17 boys advance. The singles side of the Sectional is a 3-game block. City Lanes in Michigan City will play host to the regional on January 20th with start times to be determined
