LAKEVILLE - As the 2023-24 regular season winds down, the LaVille girls basketball team still has work to do. Coach Nicholas Amor's club winds down his second campaign with three games, starting with a home game against Argos on January 23. The game was originally scheduled to be a girl-boy doubleheader, but a leak in Dale E. Cox Gymnasium has moved LaVille Lady Hoops to the Auxiliary Gym at the Lakeville school. The boys portion, Career Academy at LaVille, has been postponed. Stay tuned for a new date. Argos, meanwhile, is led by 5'6" senior Samantha Redinger, who brings in a 31.3 points per game average. She has scored in double-figures in all 19 games so far this season. She just scored 55 points as the Dragons defeated Oregon-Davis 79-54 on January 11. Redinger was held to a low of 11 points by New Prairie December 19 as Argos absorbed a 75-30 loss to the Cougars. The Dragons are 8-11 overall after a 40-37 loss to John Glenn in the 59th Everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament. Argos averages 53.4 points per game and are 8-3 when scoring at least 53 points. On defense, they allow 45 points per outing and are 7-1 when holding the opposition to 45 points or less this season. Alydiah Leed is second on the team in scoring with 6.3 ppg. Ellie Bollenbacher adds 6.2 points per outing and leads Argos with a 7.7 rebound per game clip. AHS shares the basketball at a 12.1 assists per game average and picks up 11.2 steals an outing. LaVille comes in with a 7-11 overall mark following a 60-23 loss to New Prairie in the 59th Everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament semifinal just four days ago. Amor's crew averages 33.5 points per game, while the defense allows 38.8 per outing. LaVille is 7-1 this season when holding its opponent to 38 or less. "We have been playing good team defense as well as improving on our rebounding," Amor said when asked about strengths of his squad. "We really need to focus on taking care of the ball. Turnovers have hurt us these past couple of games and we need to clean things up on the offensive end of the floor." As the season draws near tournament time, Amor says each of the three final regular games is important heading down the stretch. "Each game is extremely important for us to have a strong finish," noted Amor. "Playing our best we can win all three. It would give us a big confidence boost going into the tournament." Brooke Edison (10.6) and Jasmine Foster (6.3) lead the LaVille offense. London Kwiatkowski, Lily Smith, and Ava Weil add support to the Lancer offense. Edison, Foster, and Kwiiatkowski lead the LaVille rebounding effort. On defense, Amor's team picks up nearly 11 steals per game. Edison is the top sniper at nearly five per game. Game on . . .
