LAKEVILLE - After starting a busy week on Tuesday with a victory over Argos, LaVille Lady Hoops took on Hoosier North rival Knox Thursday. Tuesday, the Dragons offered a 3-2 zone, but the Lancers were able to figure out a solution to pick up a victory to start the three-game week. Thursday, the Redskins brought in a similar look, so the task once again was to figure out a way to attack the 3-2. After a slow start against Knox's zone defense, LaVille coach Nicholas Amor's club used a 12-0 to take a 22-12 lead midway through the second quarter.   LaVille's Ava Weil then hit a big 3-pointer as the Lancers grabbed a 25-17 halftime lead. In the second half, LaVille used a patient, crisp-passing offense to offset the Redskin defense and find the open player for a bucket.  After going back and forth in the third quarter, LaVille took leads of 30-21 and 34-23 on a baskets by Brooke Edison to finish with a 36-29 lead. Defensive pressure and crucial rebounds were pivotal in the fourth stanza 48-29 advantage. The Lancers were able to solve the Redskins 3-2 zone defense, oftentimes using one more pass to find the open player for a basket. "We moved the ball well and continued to find the extra pass," Amor said after watching his club put up 13 assists.  "We got to the rim and didn't settle for outside shots." Not only did the Lancer offense adjust to the KHS defense, the LaVille defense also played well, holding the Redskins under their scoring average for the season and just four points over the final 8 minutes. "We played really well," noted Amor. "And limiting turnovers again was our biggest strength.  We also played through some adversity with the foul calls. The girls still found a way to be aggressive." Amor's crew forced 24 turnovers and came up with 14 steals.  Edison led the sniper attack with 6 steals.  Weil dished out 6 assists for LHS. Edison led all scorers by tying her career-high 19 points and completed the double-double by hauling down a career-high 14 rebounds. Weil closed a solid performance with 12 points, 4 steals, and 6 assists. Mackena Deason added 8 points, while Jasmine Foster chipped in with 7 points and 6 rebounds. LaVille improved to 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the Hoosier North.  The Lancers are scheduled to close the 2023-24 regular season with senior night on January 27.  The junior varsity will tip at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow. The 2024 IHSAA girls state basketball tournament is set to open on Tuesday, January 30.  The Lancers will open play on February 2 against Wheeler at the 2A North Judson-San Pierre Sectional.
