LAKEVILLE - As the 2023-24 girls high school basketball season winds down, LaVille Lady Hoops will close the season against Culver Community. The junior varsity is scheduled to tip at 6 p.m., with the varsity to follow at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. LaVille will also recognize seniors London Kwiatkowski and Lilly Smith, along with their parents/guardians between games. Coach Nicholas Amor's club is 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference. This will be the third game of the week for the Lancers.  Amor's crew has won two straight after a 54-32 win against Argos on January 23.  Two days later, LV picked up a big HNAC win over the Redskins, 55-33. As the Indiana High School Athletic Association state tournament draws near, LaVille continues to improve its offense against the zone and that,m along with the Lancer defense, helped to gain some momentum. "We moved the ball well and continued to find the extra pass," Amor said after watching his club put up 13 assists against Knox.  "We got to the rim and didn't settle for outside shots." The Lancer defense has also played well this season, allowing 38.2 points per game. Amor's squad is 9-1 when holding the opposition to 38 points or less. "We have been playing good team defense as well as improving on our rebounding," explained Amor. "They all played really well. They played well defensively. They were locked in and every player did a good job of taking care of the ball.  That was our emphasis going into the (Argos) game.  In the past couple of games, even the ones we won, we haven't taken care of the ball.  And we did a really good job. We saw the extra look, we made the extra pass and we finished and that's all I can ask for." Though LaVille had not done well against the Redskins in recent history (2-7 in the last nine encounters), the Lancers did not let that stand in their way.  LHS used a 19-4 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to pull away. Brooked Edison tied a career-high 19 points and Ava Weil netted 12 points in the HNAC victory.  Mackena Deason added 8 and Jasmine Foster chipped in with 7 for LaVille. LaVille is led by Edison, while Foster has played well off the bench after returning from injury. Mackena Deason, London Kwiatkowski, Lilly Smith, and Weil are also key contributors for the Lancers.  Mikalah Kuskye runs the point and is a co-leader in assists.  Smith, Deason, Weil, and Kuskye are all outside threats.  Edison, Kwiatkowski, and Foster lead the rebounding effort. Amor's club leads the series 23-12 since 2000-01. Culver enters the final game of the season at 4-16 overall and 1-5 in HNAC play. The Cavaliers are 2-8 against LaVille since January of 2017. Saturday's season finale will also be a rematch of the January 17 Everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament in Lakeville.  Amor's crew defeated the Cavaliers 41-26 just 9 days ago to advance to the semifinal round. A balanced scoring effort and some stingy defense lifted the Lancers to the victory. Smith, Deason, Weil and Edison scored eight points each as LaVille pulled away. According to coach Amor, Culver will play a compact zone on defense and try to use the big's to get points in the paint. "Culver will play a packed in 2-3 zone and we still have to find ways to get to the basket" said Amor.   "Offensively they have some size in the post and will try to utilize that size. We need to come out and be the aggressors defensively." Game on . . . . SENIOR DAY Teams: Culver Community (4-16) at LaVille (9-11) Site: Dale E. Cox Gymnasium, Lakeville, IN.
