NORTH JUDSON - Hoosier Hysteria returns! The 49th edition of Indiana High School girls' basketball moves into the semifinal round around the state. For the second year in a row, LaVille will meet Wheeler in its first respective game of the tournament. The game is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. ET tip and can be streamed by clicking www.ihsaatv.org/LHSLancers/ The Lancers are 10-11 overall following a 45-23 victory over Culver Community in the final regular season game on January 27. LaVille is riding a three-game winning streak and has won 4 of its last 5 games. The lone loss was a 60-23 loss to New Prairie in the semifinal round of the Everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament. A couple of weeks ago, Lancer coach Nicholas Amor talked with his squad about some things they were doing well and some things that they needed to improve on." We have been playing good team defense as well as improving on our rebounding," Amor said when asked about strengths of his squad. "We really needed to focus on taking care of the ball. Turnovers hurt us and we needed to clean things up on the offensive end of the floor." LHS continues to play good defense and hitting the boards. The area that has improved has been attacking the basket instead of shooting the outside shot. "Each game was extremely important for us to have a strong finish," noted Amor. "Turnovers have hurt us and we needed to clean things up on the offensive end of the floor." With the regular season in the rear-view mirror. For every team plays by the moniker "Survive and Advance". Amor's crew averages 36.0 points per game, while allowing 37.4 per outing. That defensive number has gone down over the last three games as LaVille has allowed an average of 28 points in the last four victories. Brooke Edison (10.6) and Jasmine Foster (6.3) lead the LaVille offense. London Kwiatkowski, Lily Smith, and Ava Weil add support to the Lancer offense. Edison, Foster, and Kwiiatkowski lead the LaVille rebounding effort. On defense, Amor's team picks up nearly 11 steals per game. Edison is the top sniper at nearly five per game. Wheeler is 11-11 following a 28-26 victory over Hobart on January 27. Senior Abigail Ordonez leads the Bearcats at 10.0 ppg. Senior Alexandra Cutka adds 8.4 ppg, senior Megan Vincent 4.5, and freshman Isabella Schumacher chips in 4.2 ppg. LaVille defeated Wheeler, 45-23, on February 4, 2023. The winner advances to the 2A North Judson Sectional championship against the winner of Career Academy South Bend and the host Blue Jays. Game on.
