LAKEVILLE - As the 2023-24 high school basketball regular season winds down, the goal is to be playing the best basketball possible. LaVille Coach Michael Edison's club is right in the middle of several key Hoosier North Athletic Conference games as loop play concludes. The Lancer basketball team is 5-1 in HNAC play, and in sole possession of second place. However, with games against Caston and Knox left to close the Hoosier North, Edison's crew keeps its eye on playing well and finishing strong. There are still important games to be played that will help decide the final HNAC standings. On February 16, Caston will visit LaVille. Then, Tuesday, February 20, Caston travels to Winamac, and Knox goes to LaVille. February 21, Triton is at Culver The Hoosier North season concludes as Knox travels to Bourbon to face Triton. "Any conference game is a big game," said Edison.  "But with the season winding down we really want to end on a high note." LaVille improved to 9-10 following a 65-61 non-conference victory over Westville on February 13.  Collin Czarncecki, Michael Good, Lucas Plummer, and Lance Edison scored in double-figures for the Lancers. "We knocked in some free throws down the stretch," noted Edison.  "I believe Michael Good went 11 for 12 from the free throw line throughout the game. We were able to get some key stops at some crucial times in the last couple of minutes. "It is always good to score points. The goal is to score more points than the other team does, but we gave up 61 points so we really needed everything we got from all of those different players." Caston is also 9-10 overall and 3-2 in the HNAC after a 48-43 non-conference loss to Lewis Cass on February 13. The Comets have split their last two Hoosier North games, losing 54-44 to league-leader Triton on February 3. Caston defeated North Judson, 36-32, in its last conference game on February 9. "They are very well coached," Edison explained of the Comets.  "They switch on defense like we do, they are patient and poised, and they have a couple of good shooters that we have to watch out for. On offense they run sets while being patient and also have some good movement on offense." According to Edison, senior Talon Stinson and classmate Caleb Zeider are a couple of guards that LaVille will have to keep an eye on. They are their top two leading scorers and can shoot and drive and are also good passers. When asked about what the keys to a LaVille were over Caston, Edison said, "challenge three point shooters, rebound, and take care of the ball on offense." Game on.
