NORTH JUDSON - One of the most important things that coaches talk to their team about - home, away, or at a neutral site - is being ready to go and getting off to a good start. As the 114th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association state basketball tournament started around Indiana, LaVille was one of those teams that got off to a good start offensively and defensively. Oh, and being focused was a crucial asset. The Lancers hit a season-best 10 shots from long distance and held the Trailblazers to single digits in 3 of 4 quarters to pick up a 61-32 victory over Career Academy South Bend. LaVille jumped out to leads of 11-3 and 14-5 before ending the first quarter with a 16-9 advantage.  Michael Good, Lucas Plummer, Collin Czarnecki, and Lance Edison provided the offensive lift for LHS, including triples from the latter three. Coach Michael Edison's squad stayed hot in the second quarter, upping the anti with each possession.  Czarnecki gave the Lancers their first double-digit lead at 19-9 after hitting a trey.  LHS exploded for its biggest lead of the first half when Czarnecki canned his fourth 3-pointer of the second quarter.  Edison's club took a 38-19 lead into the halftime break. "I thought all the players were very focused and ready to go tonight and it showed in the way we shot the ball in the first five or six minutes," Edison said of the way his team started off.  "We were also able to get some steals and deflections and get them out of what they wanted to do." The Lancer defense was able to get deflections that turned into steals and a 10-0 burst to start the second half.  Edison watched as his crew made no mistake there would be no upset on this night. "Our defense did a really nice job tonight!" said Edison.  "Michael Good took two charges, Cody Allen had a great all-around defensive game along with another charge and other players had some big plays." Career Academy and LaVille battled all night on the glass.  Good hauled down 12 boards, Plummer had 7, and the duo of Czarnecki and Braedyn Foster added 5 each. "There were a couple stretches where I wasn't pleased with our rebounding," Edison when asked about the play on the glass.  "But then we had some other stretches where we did a really good job.   Michael Good came up big for us at different times in the game with some big rebounds." And while the action was competitive inside the paint, the game from beyond the arc was easily won by LaVille. Czarnecki led the way with 5 from downtown.  Plummer added another 3, and Edison tossed in a pair of his own. "Shooting the ball extremely well never hurts!" Edison explained after the season-best outside shooting display. "Good shooting can make up for a lot of other deficiencies. Collin, Lucas, and Lance all had at least two three-pointers." With the victory, LaVille moves to the semifinal round against host North Judson on Friday, March 1.  The game is scheduled to tip at 6:30 p.m. ET.  The second semifinal game pits South Central (Union Mills) against 2A #9 Hebron immediately following. The North Judson Sectional championship is set for Saturday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET.
