GOSHEN - Going into the 2024 season, LaVille head boys track and field coach Kathe Beehler knew that her squad "dominated in field events last year." The 15th year Lancer boss did, however, indicate that she didn't "know that we will have that same dominance this year, but we will be very strong again." Beehler's crew shined brightly during the rough weather conditions at the Goshen Relays. In fact, the Lancers finished the Class B team portion in second place, just seven points behind champion Fairfield. Several LHS field event participants came through with fine performances. Michael Good and Lincoln Hulsey won individual titles, while others scored points despite rough weather that forced student-athletes to compete through windy and cold conditions. Good came through with a blue ribbon toss of 168-feet, 7-inches to win the Class B discus by nearly 24 feet. He is coming off a record-breaking toss last Thursday and building some momentum. On the opposite end of the track, Hulsey cleared 14 feet to pick up the Class B pole vault championship. He, too, is coming off a fine effort Thursday. Both Good and Hulsey also helped their respective relay teams compete throughout the day. As the meet started, the temperature was at 39-degrees, with the wind humming along at 16-18 miles per hour. "Michael and Lincoln were coming off a great performance at Knox on Thursday and were looking forward to the big meet atmosphere," said Beehler. "They were both aware that the weather wasn’t ideal for record breaking performances. The goal was to compete and hit the mark to win. They are both competitors and know what they have to do. Lincoln ran anchor legs on the 2nd place 4x400 and 4x200 meter relay teams and the 400 meter leg on the 4th place intermediate relay (200,200,400,800). Michael also ran on the 4x100 meter relay team. "It’s April in Northern Indiana so we have to be prepared for any kind of weather. It wasn’t the weather we wanted for the day but we adjusted and had some great performances despite the cold and wind. When it’s that cool it’s important to allow extra time to warm up prior to competition." While Hulsey started the day at the pole vault pit, Good began at the shot put area. Good finished in second, just 10 inches from the top spot. Other LHS field event participants that placed and scored points were Lance Edison in the high jump, Sam Sherk in the long jump and Matthew Shaefer in the pole vault. "We had great performances even with the cold and wind," explained Beehler. "Freshman Lance Edison tied for second in the high jump, ran on the 4x400 , intermediate and distance medley relay teams. Konnor Amor ran strong legs of the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 and intermediate relays. Cole Stafford also ran strong legs on the 4x200, 4x400 and 4x100 relays." Beehler's field event unit scored 45 on the day. LaVille gets back in action on April 23 against Michigan City Marquette and Winamac. The triangular meet will be held at LaVille High School, with field events underway at 6 p.m. EDT. 81ST GOSHEN RELAYS At Foreman Field Team scores: Fairfield 80, LaVille 73, Angola 72, Westview 70.5, Bremen 68, Wabash 62, Culver Academy 55, West Noble 50, Lakeland 41, Tippecanoe Valley 38, Trinity Greenlawn 38, Hanover Central 35.5, Central Noble 24, Marian 22, Prairie Heights 12, St. Thomas More 7, Whitko 6 LaVille Results 1st Michael Good - Discus Lincoln Hulsey - Pole Vault 2nd Michael Good - Shot Put Lance Edison - High Jump Amor, Good, Stafford, Hulsey - 4X200 Relay Amor, Edison, Stafford, Hulsey - 4400 Relay 4th Sam Sherk - Long Jump Matt Schaefer - Pole Vault Amor, Edison, Hulsey, Sherk - Spring Medley 6th Avery Garrett - High Jump 7th Garrett, Sherk, Beelby, Christy - 4X800 Relay Amor, Safford, Neese, Good - 4X100 Relay
