LAKEVILLE - Unlike several other spring sports, track and field is one where the athletes can compete in the rain (and heaven forbid, snow) on most dates. For safety reasons, athletes and, oftentimes patrons, are asked to move to a safe location when the skies threaten with thunder and lightning. As the rain came down, all of the eight schools tried their best to push forward and do their best. When it was all said and done, the 2024 edition of Lancer Relays was able to finish up. Fairfield earned the team trophy in both the boys and girls division, edging the Lancers. In the boys event, the Falcons scored 106 points while LaVille closed with 83, and late-entrant Hobart fashioned out 71 points. On The girls side Fairfield, LaVille, John Glenn, and Hobart battled before the Falcons squeaked away with a 85-77 win over the host Lancers. The Falcons were third and the Brickies finished fourth in the team standings. LaVille had a pair of champions - both of which came in the 4X400 relay. Brooke Edison, Mackenna Deason, Mikalah Kuskye, and London Kwiatkowski finished in 4:29.00, a bit over 11-seconds ahead of Fairfield. The team of Konnor Amor, Sam Sherk, Cole Stafford, and Lincoln Hulsey clocked in a 3:43.21, less than three second ahead of Hobart. Coach Kathe Beehler's boys team competed very well despite the weather. In fact, the Lancers fought and scrapped for seven 2nd-place finishes to hang tough with Fairfield. A solid effort in the field events kept the score tight at the top. The high jump duo of Avery Garrett and Lance Edison, along with the pole vault team of Matthew Schaeffer and Lincoln Hulsey both picked up a red ribbon. In the long jump, Amor, Sherk, and Jonathan Neese combined for 51'-8", just a shade over three inches from first place. The discus trio of Michael Good, Eli Platz, and Cody Allen tossed for 331'-9.5 inches for a solid second. Also finishing in second were the shuttle hurdle relay, 4X100 relay, and the 4X200 relay. The LaVille ladies also had a solid night, especially in the field events. Despite the soggy conditions, three groups grabbed second place. Hallie Hulsey and Reagan Mitchell combined for 12'-6" in the pole vault. At the long jump pit, Madison Singleton, Ava Fuchs, and Sarah Tharp 40'-6.5". And in discus, Reagan Bollenbacher, Denni Markin, and Moriah Richhart put together 238'-7". Helping the team depth were six third-place finishes. The Shuttle Hurdle relay, the distance medley, the 4X200 relay, 4X800 relay, 4X100 relay, and shot put trio of Bollenbacher, Richhart, and Markin. Coach Erin Ecker's squad was the only team that scored in each event to push for the chase for the girls team title. LaVille is back in action April 30
