LAKEVILLE - No matter what sport, everyone likes to play at home. On Monday, LaVille started a two-game series with North Judson-San Pierre in North Judson, IN. After battling through seven innings, the two Hoosier North Athletic Conference rivals went to extra innings. The Lancers did not score in the top of the 8th inning, but the Blue Jays scratched a run across for a 3-2 victory. That NJSP win, forced a three-way tie for the conference lead with LaVille and Winamac heading into Tuesday's second games. Tuesday, LaVille scored four big runs in the bottom of the first inning, leading the way to a 6-1 triumph over visiting North Judson. Jumping out to a nice lead at the end of the first inning helped the LaVille baseball team to gain confidence and set the table for a Hoosier North Athletic Conference victory. Karson Quinn got the start on the mound and pitched three innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, one walk, and four strikeouts to pick up the win. Brayden Schwitz tosses three innings, allowing one hit, no earned runs, two walks, and two strikeouts. In the seventh, Andrew Wolford came on to hold North Judson scoreless, giving up two hits, but induced a ground ball to shortstop Lucas Plummer for the game-ending double play. In the first, got things going with a lead-off walk, then scored on Collin Czarnecki's RBI double. Andre Gonzales also had an RBI single in the inning and later scored on a dropped third strike. "It was great to split the series," said LaVille coach Brian Lawler. "We were able to get 4 runs in the 1st inning with a little help and that allowed us to settle in." Plummer scored two runs and completed a 2-for-3 effort in the victory. "Our pitching and defense was good and led by Quinn, Schwitz and Wolford," explained Lawler, who's squad allowed 10 total base runners in the game. "(Sean) Kubsch made a couple nice scoops at first base to help us get out of some innings including the game ending DP." LaVille's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record to 8-4 overall and 6-1 in the HNAC. Lawler's crew will face the current Northeast Corner Conference leader Fairfield on May 3. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. LHS returns to Hoosier North action on May 4 at Winamac. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 10 a.m., with the second game to follow.
