WINAMAC - The baseball team remained atop the Hoosier North Athletic Conference standings after a doubleheader sweep on Saturday. Great pitching, team defense, and enough offense led LaVille to a 2-0 and 1-0 victory at Winamac. In the opener, LaVille scored in the top of the 1st, then added an insurance run in the top of the 7th for the win. Lucas Plummer and Andrew Wolford combined to hold the Warriors scoreless on the bump. Plummer tosses 6.1 innings, allowing zero runs, five hits, three walks, and 15 strikeouts to earn the pitching decision. Andrew Wolford came on to get the final two outs of the game for the save. "It was a good day for us on the diamond," said LaVille coach Brian Lawler. "It was all pitching and defense in both games. Plummer once again with a great outing with 15 strikeouts going 6 plus innings. We were able to get that insurance run (in the seventh) when (Riley) Filley got hit and scored on the sacrifice fly by Plummer." Brayden Schwitz led the offense with two hits, with additional help at the plate from Collin Czarnecki, Woldord, and Filley. Game two ended up being another outstanding conference battle, with LaVille pushing a run across in the third. Karson Quinn was equally impressive on the mound, going six complete innings, allowing two hits, one walk and 12 strikeouts for the win. Wolford once again came on in the seventh inning to record his second save of the day. LaVille pushed the only run of the game home after Riley Filley beat out a dropped third strike in the 3rd inning. Filley moved around to third base, then scored on a single to left field by Collin Czarnecki. "Game two was Quinn on the mound going 6 scoreless innings," Lawler said of the nightcap. "Wolford was able to come in and record 2 saves on the day in the 7th. (Collin) Czarnecki got the big hit (in the third inning) and was able to drive the run in which proved to be enough." Though the game two offense was limited by pitching and defense, Czarnecki, Andre Gonzales, and Sean Kubsch provided a spark. "Good series, good defense, and good pitching all day," concluded Lawler. LHS improved to 10-5 overall and 8-1 in HNAC play. After a couple days off, the Lancers play non-conference games against Culver Academy (May 8) and Elkhart Christian Academy (May 11). Lawler's crew returns to Hoosier North action on May 9 and 10 against Knox.
