The junior high baseball team traveled to Rochester. LaVille jumped to a 2-0 lead early before falling, 6-5, to the Zebras. Coach Wayne Thomas' club started strong, scoring two runs in the first inning. A total of seven batters came to the plate, with Griffen Smith reaching base and scored the first run. Preston Eickleberry scored the next a couple batters later. The Lancers scored three more runs in the fifth as Chase Henry, Nolan Gundrum, and Landon Swihart crossed the plate. Colten Schwitz tossed five innings, striking out seven, including three consecutive Ks to close out the 2nd inning. Defensively Schwitz had a beautiful 1-3 double play on a comebacker to close out the fourth inning. Thomas' crew moves to 2-5 overall, with two games remaining in the 2024 season. On May 16, LaVille will travel to Culver for a 5 p.m. start. Then on May 20, the Lancers will play host to Whitko at Newton Park. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
