FULTON - LaVille and Caston met for the high-anticipated Hoosier North Athletic Conference championship baseball game. Both teams averaged right around six runs per game, had similar team batting averages, and had quite similar records against common opponents. The HNAC title game did not disappoint when it came to offense. Unfortunately for LaVille, the Comets had a bit more on offense and put together three big offensive innings that proved the difference in a 11-7 Caston victory. Braedyn Foster led the Lancer offense, going 3-for-4 and a run batted in. Collin Czarnecki and Xavian LaFave added two hits apiece for the nine-hit attack by LHS. Coach Brian Lawler's club got on the board in the top of the second inning after an error scored two runs. Brayden Schwitz hit a sacrifice fly as LaVille opened a 3-0 lead. Caston bounced right back, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second. Gavin Mollenkopf had the big hit with a two-run single. The Comets added three more runs in the bottom of the third and three insurance runs in the fifth. LaVille rallied with four runs in the top of the seventh. Talon Zeider went the distance to earn the win on the bump. Zeider surrendered nine hits and seven runs (four earned). He struck out six and walked four. Czarnecki took the loss for LHS. He tossed two innings, giving up four runs (zero earned) on three hits with a strikeout and two walks. Lawler's crew closed HNAC play at 10-4, good for second. The Lancers will finish up the regular season May 21 against Triton.
