KOKOMO - Juniors Brooke Edison and Moriah Richhart participated in the Kokomo Girls Track and Field Regional Tuesday. Edison entered the regional as the 2024 Saint Joseph high jump sectional champion and in a seven-way tie as the third-seed. Richhart was seeded eighth after qualifying in the shot put. The high jump bar started at 4-feet, 8-inches. Each of the top 10 that did not pass, cleared the opening height. Edison was successful on her first jump. Moved to 4'-10", the entire top 10 that did not pass cleared the bar. Once again, Edison was successful on her first jump. Next the bar was raised to 5'-0" and now all jumpers entered the competition. It was at this point that Edison had a couple hiccups in her approach. "Brooke was jumping well up until the 5' mark," said LaVille coach Erin Ecker. "Her footing was off on two jumps and clipped the bar on her third attempt. She tied for ninth place. She finished in good spirits with goals for next year." Richhart, meanwhile, completed her first and second tosses at the shot put. Unfortunately she had a foul on her third attempt and her best distance of the day - 33'-2.5" - did not qualify her for the final round. "Some days are off-days, and unfortunately for Moriah, that day came (Tuesday)," Ecker noted about her shot put thrower. "She held back a bit on her first throw, and that set the tone. Her final throw was her best and it might have been good enough to get into finals, but she exited the ring from the side and that negated the throw. I know she was disappointed, luckily she has another year to redeem her performance." Richhart finished in 15th place in shot put at the Kokomo Regional. The 2024 girls track and field season has completed for LaVille. Thank you, Lancers!
