WABASH - The baseball team battled Wabash in the semifinal round of the IHSAA 2A sectional. LaVille led early, then trailed late before a huge rally fell just short in a 10-8 loss to the Apaches. Trailing 10-3 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lancers put on the rally caps to score five runs. Coach Brian Lawler's club had runners on second and third with two outs before an infield pop out closed the game. Lawler's crew opened the final frame with back to back singles by Wolford and Xzavian LaFave before a walk to Braedyn Foster loaded the bases. Sean Kubsch earned a four-pitch walk and the Lancers were able to score two runs to pull within, 10-4. After a strikeout, Plummer hit a ground ball toward third, but Wabash misplayed the ball and a pair of runners scored. Brayden Schwitz smacked an RBI single to right field to narrow the gap to 10-7. Collin Czarnecki kept the game alive by hitting a tw-out ground ball toward third base. Once again, the ball was misplayed and not only did LaVille score a run to make it 10-8 but runners were able to scramble in scoring position at second and third. Wabash's Cooper Long then induced a pop out to the second baseman for the final out. The Apache's outhit LHS 12-9, including four extra base hits. Trevor Daughtry earned the pitching win, throwing four innings with two runs, three walks, and two strikeouts. Lucas Plummer absorbed the loss for the Lancers. The senior tossed three innings, allowing five runs, five walks, and four strikeouts. LaVille closes the 2024 season at 15-9.
