(SECOND IN A SERIES) LAKEVILLE - LaVille's London Kwiatkowski has been selected the 2024 Dale E. Cox Female Athlete of the Year. "When I found out that I was athlete of the year I felt very honored," said Kwiatkowski. "Because I have worked so hard in all three of my sports for the last four years of high school and I’m glad that I have something to show for it." This is the 20th year for the Dale E. Cox Athlete of the Year award. The annual award was started in 2005 in honor of the longtime educator, coach and athletic director. "I have been in sports since I could remember," noted the Indiana University-bound Lancer. "I started out in softball then I progressed to playing basketball and track and field in the 5th grade. I have loved playing sports all my life. It has given me so many good friendships." Kwiatkowski was also active in the National Honor Society, DECA, and was also the Class of 2024 President. According to the 11 letterwinner athlete, there has been one big factor for her during the last four years. "I don’t think my high school experience would have been the same if I did not play sports," said Kwiatkowski. "Sports have given me so many great friendships." Being a three-sport athlete also means multiple opportunities to put on a Lancer uniform and represent not just herself, but her team and school. "Putting on all my different uniforms the past four years has felt special," explained Kwiatkowski. "Every time I practice or play in a game I try to get better and that’s what putting on a uniform for me is. It means to push yourself to your limits to be the best that you can be at everything you do." We also had the opportunity to ask London what kind of advice she would give to future Lancer student-athletes. "Some words of wisdom are to always try to talk to new people and be friends with them," said Kwiatkowski. "You never know they could end up being your best friend. Some of my favorite memories are just laughing and having fun with all my teammates." As she moves forward into her future, Kwiatkowski says she plans to major in law and public policy. "Even though I was a three sport athlete in high school I do not wish to pursue any sports in college." During her high school career, she earned four letters in soccer and track and field, while also earning three letters in basketball. "I do want to thank the whole community for supporting the LaVille girls sports teams," concluded Kwiatkowski. "Also to the community and all my coaches for all of the support they have shown to me and my teammates especially during basketball season." Congratulations, London!
