LAKEVILLE - The junior high volleyball team opened the 2024 season against Indiana Northern State Conference foe Jimtown on Monday. Both the 7th grade and 8th grade battled before falling, 2-0. In the seventh grade match, Savannah Pieper had 3 points (all aces), Zalea Schaefer had 3 points (1 ace), and Emma Wisniewski had 3 points (all aces). Alex Bracken also had 2 aces and Collette Morgan had an ace as well. On the eighth grade side, the Lancers played a tough Jimtown team last night, but never backed down. "Our scores are not reflective of how much the team has improved over the last several weeks," said Jen Higley, the 8th grade coach. "These girls have a lot of potential and I can’t wait to see how we continue to improve each day. Yesterday was a 'starting point'. The sky's the limit for this team!" Leaders in the 8th grade match were Sophie Jones was 4/4 with one ace, Savannah Wagner was 3/5 with two aces, and Bella Higley was 2/2 with one ace, all in serving. LaVille returns to action on August 21 at Lakeview. The 7th grade begins at 5:30 p.m., with the 8th grade to follow. The next home match is set for August 26 against rival Urey. First serve is at 5 p.m., with the 8th graders immediately following.
