LAKEVILLE - The varsity volleyball team took a two set lead, then rallied for the final nine points of the third set to pick up a 3-0 victory over Lakeland Christian Academy. A scrappy Cougar team played strong at the net to keep things close in each set. LHS, however, had a nice mix of its serving game and timely plays at the net to fight off Lakeland Christian. Olivia Markin and Faith Mejer sparked the offense. Markin finished with 7 kills and 7 aces. Mejer, meanwhile, added her own 7 kills, 4 aces, and 2 blocks in the battle of net play with the Cougars. From the service line, the Lancers claimed 17 aces and 24 kills from the offense. The LaVille junior varsity improved to 4-0 with a 2-0 victory over the Cougars. Serving was once again a strength as LaVille collected 20 aces. Avery Lee led the way with 6 aces. A total of nine players had at least one ace. Lorelei Carey led the net attack with six kills, while Lily Voss added four kills. LaVIlle returns to action on August 27 at South Bend Washington before returning home for a non-conference tilt with South Bend Riley on August 28. The JV match serves up at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity.
