LAKEVILLE - Following four matches on the road to open the 2024 girls high school soccer season, LaVille returned home for the first time this year. Mishawaka came calling at Newton Park for a non-conference match between the local rivals. The Lancers have led the series 5-3 since 2015-16. In Tuesday's match, LaVille battled from behind three times to force a tie, before two Mishawaka goals in the final eight minutes gave the Cavemen a 5-3 victory. It was the first win of the season for MHS, while it was the first loss for LHS. Mackena Deason scored a pair of goals for LaVille. Mikalah Kuskye netted the final Lancer goal to tie the match at 3-3 with 13 minutes remaining. The Cavemen, however, responded with two goals by Leah Thomas down the stretch for the difference. MHS outshot LaVille 14-10, although the Lancers had more corner kicks, 6-0. LaVille (4-1) will travel to Jimtown (4-0-1) for an Indiana Northern State Conference match. The Lancers and John Glenn are both 1-0 in the INSC standings, while Bremen and Tippecanoe Valley are 0-1. It will be the Jimmies first INSC match of the season.
