LAKEVILLE - Rivalries can have crazy affects on teams. Many coaches have said to throw out records and rankings as they won't matter. Heading into Thursday's John Glenn-LaVille rivalry and conference match, the Falcons were riding a four-match winning streak and sitting at 2-0 in Indiana Northern State Conference play. The Lancers were looking to end a three-match losing streak, including a pair of tight INSC encounters with Jimtown and Bremen and were 1-2 in loop play. Thursday, when senior Mikalah Kuskye scored off a pass from Macie Edwards in the fifth minute, there was a feeling that Kuskye's goal wasn't going to be the lone shot to land in the net. John Glenn's Lydia Goodsell tied the match at 1-1 just two minutes later that set off a response from LaVille. Within two minutes, Mackena Deason and Kuskye wrinkled the nylon. Deason goal came off an assist by Kuskye and Kuskye's shot was aided by Reagan Mitchell. Oh, and there's more. In the last 10 minutes of the first half, four more goals were scored. John Glenn's Sammy Walker narrowed LaVille's lead to one before Kuskye recorded her hat trick. The Falcons Anna Shoue found the net with inside three minutes before half. The Lancers added another with under 40 seconds left as Kuskye scored her fourth goal to send the teams into the halftime break. Lilah Donlon kept John Glenn in the match, scoring just a little less than two minutes into the second half Kuskye's evening wasn't quite over. The Lancer senior recorded her fifth goal in the 54th minute before adding her second assist of the match on Deason's second goal to finish up the LaVille scoring. Shoue added her second goal of the night in the 70th minute before the final 10 minutes came to a close. With the LaVille victory, the Lancers are 2-2 in conference play and await results from INSC matches on September 17 to determine conference seedings. Jimtown leads the INSC pack at 3-0. The Jimmies play host to the Falcons in the battle for the INSC regular season championship ahead of the September 28 INSC Championships at Newton Park.
