JH Volleyball Splits Against Culver

LAKEVILLE - The junior high volleyball team played host to Culver Community Monday. LaVille split with the Cavaliers, winning the eighth grade match and falling in the seventh grade match. Both matches finished in three sets! In the seventh grade match, the Lancers fell to Culver, 2-1. Emma Wisniewski led in serving with 10 points (6 aces) followed by Zalea Schaefer with 8 points (5 aces) and Colette Morgan with 6 points (4 aces). Karissa Richhart led in passing and assists. Wisniewski had 2 kills, while Richhart had 5 tips (2 resulting in a point) followed by Emma Wisniewski with 2 tips (both yielded points) and Kaydence Yzuguirre also had a tip that resulted in a point. "We fought a good fight though!" said seventh grade coach Candi Weller. The eighth grade team won a thrilling match, 2-1. All three sets were determined by just two points each - 23-25, 25-23, 17-15 - with LaVille earning the victory. "The girls worked hard and everyone contributed to the win," said eighth grade coach Jennifer Higley. "As we are feeling more comfortable with the rotations our focus moving forward will be on cutting down on unforced errors. (We missed 15 serves last night!). I’m so proud of the girls!" Bella Higley and Sophie Jones each had two kills to lead the Lancer net attack. Sophie Jones had 6 aces, while Violet Wheeler and Savannah Wagner each contributed 4 aces. Trisha Reese had two aces LaVille will return to action at Bremen on September 19. The seventh grade starts at 5 p.m., with the eighth grade to follow.
