LAKEVILLE - After playing on the road for three of four Friday's to start the high school football season, LaVille is excited to play in front of the home folks again. "Anytime you get to play at home is a good thing," said LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser. "We know the surroundings and you get to defend your home turf along with having a good crowd!" It will be the first time since 1981 LHS and Tippecanoe Valley square off. In case you are wondering, that was 43 years ago. So, it's been a long time. Kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Lancer Field in Lakeville, Indiana. This visit, however, has a different twist by the schedule-makers. Both are members of the newly formed Indiana Northern State Conference. Tippecanoe Valley was a longtime member of the Three Rivers Conference and when the new INSC was formed and asked if it would like to join, the Vikings answered the call. The Vikings (3-1 overall, 0-1 INSC play), lost a 26-3 conference game at Knox a week ago. LaVille, however, used a late touchdown pass from Collin Czarnecki to Brayden Schwitz to rally for a 13-12 INSC win at Bremen. "Some keys to our comeback last week: first and foremost we played 48 minutes and that’s what you have to do every week," said Kaiser, who is now 13-4 in his second year in Lakeville. "We also played as a unit and stayed together through good and bad." One look at TVs stat sheet tells you that the coach Stephen Moriarty likes to run the football. Through the first four games this season, the Vikings have rushed for nearly 1,000 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns. Junior Wes Parker is the workhorse already over 330 yards, averaging 13.8 yards per carry and five TDs. Along with Parker are Grady Moriarty, Brock Derf, and Brandon Stiles that can run and average more than five yards per carry. Though TV has attempted just 25 passes, look for wideout Owen Omondi to be a target. "Some key players for them on the offensive side of the ball that we must be aware of and not let them get in a rhythm are the RB’s of Brock Derf and Brandon Stiles," noted Kaiser. "… they also like WR Owen Omondi." Defensively, the Vikings allow 15.3 points per outing so far in 2024. They have four takeaways (three fumble recoveries and one interception), along with eight sacks and 24 tackles for loss. "On the defensive side of the ball they are aggressive," said Kaiser. "And it starts with the linebacker core of Brock Derf, Grady Moriarty and Brandon Stiles." Derf, Moriarty, and Stiles are consistently around the ball, averaging between 8 and 11 tackles per outing. For LaVille, the rivalry win at Bremen was a fine way to start INSC play, but Kaiser knows a new team comes to town this week and the schedule continues. "It’s just like any week, win or lose," explained Kaiser. "We turn the page on Saturday morning when we come in for film, weights and conditioning. We don’t hang our hat on a win or loss … we work to get more! This is a long season that if you get complacent and/or satisfied you're going to beat yourselves … Although it was a rivalry win, we have goals above that one game to work ahead to the next conference opponent."
