Passing Game Effective Despite Loss At Knox

KNOX - The LaVille football team knew that Knox wasn't going to hide anything. The game plan of Redskin head football coach Russ Radtke is to line up, this is what we do, and play smash-mouth football. And with the backfield duo of Myles McLaughlin and Jake Conroy feeding off of the execution from the offensive line, the Redskins amassed 488 yards rushing by the pair en route to a 57-24 victory over LaVille. ". . . I was proud that they didn't give up," said LaVille coach Jeff Kaiser. "We ran into a buzz saw that we couldn't slow down and that we are only guaranteed 4 more games. Turn the page and let's get back to work." McLaughlin cut, darted, and outran LaVille's defense for 323 yards (unofficially) and five touchdowns. Last season, the Knox speedster rushed for over 2,500 yards and 35 touchdowns to become Knox's all-time scoring leader and career rushing leader. He came into Friday's game with 940 yards rushing and 15 rushing TDs this season, putting him over 1,200 yards so far this year. Conroy, who gave a solid effort in dashing, diving, and bruising his way to 165 yards and three scores against the Lancers, entered week six of the regular season with a bit over 600 yards. After deferring choice to the second half, Knox kicked to LHS to start the game. The Lancers were able to move the ball, but their opening drive turned into an interception by Maddox Kinder and Knox started its firsts drive of the game at LaVille's 42-yard line. That would be the first of eight straight point-scoring drives for Radtke's club. Conroy scored a pair of rushing TDs and McLaughlin the first of his handful of scores. LaVille got on the board after Cody Allen broke free for 71 yards to the Knox 1-yard line. Cole Stafford came on to cross the goal line for the Lancers' first score. Trailing 22-6 and heading into the second period, Czarnecki helped the Lakeville guests get to within 22-12. The 6'-3" Lancer signal-caller connected with Konnor Amor on a 30-yard pass play. The 2-point run failed. Knox continued its dominance in the trenches as McLaughlin packed bags from 30 yards out for the TD, before Conroy bulldozed his way into the end zone from the Redskin 1. McLaughlin put the cap on an overall fine effort scoring three times in the third quarter. The 5'-10" junior found the opening in the line and sprinted 67 yards to open the third period. On the next drive put together a pair of big runs. The first went for 37 yards after he darted his way into LaVille territory. There was a block in the back called late in the run, which put Knox at LaVille's 25. On the very next play, the confident McLaughlin once again worked his way through the line of scrimmage and darted his way for a 25-yard TD scamper. Radtke's quarterback put the finishing touches on what was a career night after taking the ball and busting loose for 34 yards and the final margin. LaVille gave a determined effort and never gave up in the third quarter. Czarnecki found Brayden Schwitz for a pair of TD passes in the third stanza. The first was a 14-yard route facing a 3rd-and-2, the second came on a 17-yard strike following Cody Allen's 56 yard gallop that put LaVille inside the red zone. "Again positives are we didn't give up and quit," concluded Kaiser. "We battled for 4 quarters. Offensively we found some balance that we must continue building on." Allen finished with 160 yards on 11 carries. Czarnecki completed 19 passes in 30 attempts for 168 yards and three touchdown passes. He also had two interceptions. The LaVille quarterback successfully spread the ball around throughout the game, which encouraged Kaiser. "The work we put in for our passing game is starting to click, and as a result that opened up our running attack," said Kaiser. "The connection amongst Czarnecki and multiple receivers will help us not allow the defense to zero in on one guy." Schwitz hauled down seven passes for 92 yards and 2 TDs, Allen had 6 for 43 yards, and Xzavian LaFave 4 for 38 yards. Konnor Amor had a 30-yard TD catch, while David Mitchell and Jonathan Neese added a reception each. LaVille, 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the INSC, will play host to John Glenn on October 4. The homecoming kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. KNOX 57, LAVILLE 24 At Knox Score By Quarters LaVille 6 12 24 24 Knox 22 34 57 57 Scoring Summary K - Jake Conroy 23 run; Myles McLaughlin run L - Cole Stafford 1 run; kick blocked K - Conroy 4 run; McLaughlin run K - McLaughlin 4 run; run failed L - Konnor Amor 30 pass from Collin Czarnecki; run failed K - McLaughlin 30 run; run failed K - Conroy 1 run; run failed K - McLaughlin 67 run; Conroy run L - Brayden Schwitz 14 pass from Czarnecki; pass failed K - McLaughlin 25 run; Conroy run K - McLaughlin 34 run; Conroy kick L - Schwitz 17 pass from Czarnecki; pass failed LV K First Downs 15 19 Yards Rushing 161 482 Comp-Att-Int 20-32-2 0-1-0 Yards Passing 221 0 Penalties-Yds 1-5 1-10 Punts-Avg 2-23 1-35 2024 INDIANA NORTHERN STATE CONFERENCE STANDINGS Football Jimtown 3-0 Knox 3-0 LaVille 1-2 Bremen 1-2 Tippecanoe Valley 1-2 John Glenn 0-3 Games Involving INSC Teams October 4 Bremen at Culver Academy, 7pm John Glenn at LaVille, 7pm Tippecanoe Valley at Western, 7pm Knox at Jimtown, 730pm
