GOSHEN - LaVille will open the 31st Indiana High School Athletic Association state soccer tournament on Monday, October 7. The Lancers (5-8-2) are set to face Westville (3-12) in the 6 p.m. opener at Dan Bodiker Athletic Complex in the Class 1A Bethany Christian Sectional. LHS defeated the Warriors 5-0 back on August 21 at Newton Park. Coach Keith Norman's club had five different players find the net a little more than six weeks ago. Ryan Maenhout worked in goal as the Lancer defense recorded its first shutout of the season. Maenhout made five saves. Westville has won two of their last 10 matches. The Warriors defeated Winamac 1-0 on September 30 and River Forest 5-4 on September 9. During the last 10 matches, WHS has a 2-3 record in matches decided by one goal. Alex McLean has scored 14 goals for Westville, while Donovan Kelly has five assists. Maverick Markos and the Warrior defense have allowed a little over four goals per match. Norman's crew are 2-6-2 over the last 10 matches, but 2-2-2 over the final six matches of the regular season. LaVille closed the season with a pair of 0-0 ties against Caston and Mishawaka. They also defeated Culver Community 3-0 on September 24 and Tippecanoe Valley 3-2 on September 28 to finish third in the Indiana Northern State Conference Championships. WHS is 1-4 on the road so far this season, while LaVille is 1-6 when away from home.
