WHITING - It's GAMEDAY! Week Nine of the 2024 IHSAA regular season has arrived. LaVille will travel to Whiting to finish up the regular season schedule for a 7:30 p.m. ET kick. Whiting is 2-6 overall following a 49-6 loss to Wheeler a week ago. This will be the first regular season meeting between the Oilers and Lancers. Whiting leads the overall series 6-4, all coming in the IHSAA state tournament. Until 2024. "Whiting has been a sectional opponent of ours in which we have had success against," said LaVille football coach Jeff Kaiser. "What stands out to me as a coach is that they have great facilities, a disciplined program with a new coach and as we will be traveling there, I feel they will prepare us mentally and physically by having the extended ride on a bus for when we start the postseason, our guys will have experienced the distractions of a long travel ahead of time and we can adjust some things if needed as a team on how we handle travel." The Oilers are led by quarterback Austin White, who needs just 79 passing yards to reach 1,000 yards for the season. White also leads the rushing attack, with nearly 650 yards for the season. He is responsible for a combined 16 touchdowns Whiting this season. White's top receiving targets are Michael Anderson, Kasen Dunn, and Kameron Patterson, combining for 57 of 61 total receptions and all six touchdowns catches. Levi Huffman, Dunn and Patterson lead the Oiler defense. Huffman is the top defender in tackles for loss and sacks. Patterson has picked off three passes. WHS averages 25.3 pointers per game, while the Oiler defense allows 33.1 points per contest. "Whiting is an improved team from what we have seen in the past," concluded Kaiser. "They have a QB that transferred in and he is shifty and can sling it pretty well. Defensively they rally to the ball and have some team speed." Game on . . .
