LAKEVILLE - LaVille girls' soccer gathered for its end of the season team recognition recently. The Lancers celebrated an 11-7 overall record, third place in the Indiana Northern State Conference, and a 2024 Argos Sectional championship. LHS won its first four matches of the season, then put together another four-match winning streak to close the regular season and start the state tournament. Coach Kevin Christy's club was eliminated from the IHSAA regional following a 4-0 loss to a very good Westview team. When asked about his seniors, Christy commented, "It's a special group. With all the ball girls running after balls on the sidelines, all the little girls in the stands, the sisters and the cousins ... What the seniors did was build a legacy for the future. Those young girls were following them all season, and for me that is the important part is the legacy they left. The 11-win season, the sectional title, it is important stuff for the future of the program. That is what we are looking for. Always building for the future. "It was an honor ... first year coming in ... they didn't know what to expect of me. I knew what we were trying to get out of them and I would say they over-delivered. Super proud ... we only had 15 (players) and that is from every single one of them. They put out everything they had. Super proud of the season we had, don't love how it finished, but a complete honor to coach these seniors." LHS will graduate the 'Senior 6' - Mackena Deason, Brooke Edison, Ava Barrett-Heaton, Mikalah Kuskye, Sydnee Miller, and Reagan Mitchell. Kuskye was named the recipient of the Dan Zeiger Award for being a team player, has solid practice attendance, hustles, and give it there best no matter what. Kuskye and Deason led the Lancer offense, scoring 22 and 21 goals for the season, respectively.
