LAKEVILLE - Behind a balanced offensive attack and stingy defense, LaVille Lady Hoops defeated Trinity Greenlawn, 42-23, in high school basketball. Coach Nicolas Amor's club had five players score at least 6 points, while the defense held the Titans scoreless in the final quarter for victory at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. "I thought we played a really good game defensively," Amor said after watching the Lancers improve to 3-1 overall. "We tried a few new things. I'm not big on zone defenses, but we tried some things to make us more versatile." Ava Weil led the offense with 10 points, while Brooke Edison and Denni Markin added nine points each. Jasmine Foster and Madi Singleton chipped in with six points each. Weil played with confidence and Singleton was a spark off the bench, with the latter scoring a career-high six points to go with four rebounds, and five steals. "I thought the girls played well," explained Amor. "Madi stepped up and played some big minutes for us. It was really good to see her and Ava attack the basket and finish with contact. The girls worked hard defensively and that needs to carry over to Friday's game with a very guard loaded Bremen team." The Lancer defense forced 25 turnovers and picked up 17 steals. The top snipers were Edison and Singleton with five each. Natalie Gabriesle led Trinity Greenlawn with seven points, while Lauren Urbanski added six off the bench. LaVille will travel to Bremen (4-1) on November 22 for a Indiana Northern State Conference match-up. The junior varsity is set to tip at 6pm, with the varsity to follow.
