LaVille Lady Hoops Continues Rivalry At Bremen
By Scot Shearer | Nov 22, 2024 12:22 PM
BREMEN - The rivalry continues! LaVille and Bremen are not strangers to each other in many athletic events. The two schools are just 10.6 miles apart, and have played each other in conference games, non-conference games, in the regular season, in the Everwise Bi-County basketball tournament, and the IHSAA state tournament. In fact, the neighborhood rivals have met three times during a season four times since 2000-01. The last three-game season came in 2013-14. On Friday, November 22, the two clubs will meet for the annual regular season tussle at Bremen High School. The junior varsity game is scheduled for a 6pm tip, with the varsity set to start around 730pm. If patrons are not able to attend the game, it can be live streamed by clicking https://fan.hudl.com/usa/in/bremen/organization/15156/bremen-high-school/watch?ib=1591681 Bremen leads the series, 31-13, since 2000-01, including a 7-3 advantage over the last 10 meetings. The Lancers won two straight in 2022-23, which also happened to be LaVille coach Nicholas Amor's first season, and the year that LHS won its last Everwise Bi-County basketball championship. Over the last 24 years games between LaVille and Bremen have been decided 16 times by six or less points and three times there was free basketball since games had to be decided by overtime. So far this season, LaVille has relied on its defense and a balanced offense to help determine the outcome of its games. Most recently - November 19th to be exact - Amor's club held Trinity Greenlawn scoreless over the last eight minutes and just 23 points for the entire game. The Lancers allow 32.6 ppg, while averaging 42.3 ppg. "The girls worked hard defensively (against Trinity Greenlawn)," Amor said following Tuesday's game. "That needs to carry over to Friday's game with a very guard loaded Bremen team." Coach Alex Robinson's team finished 16-12 overall last year, won a 2A sectional and regional championship, and took an 8-game winning streak into the 2A Huntington North Semi-State championship. Norwell advanced to the 2A state championship game after a 64-20 victory over the Lions. Fast forward to 2024-25 and Robinson's team is off to a 4-1 start and returns eight players from the 2023-24 semi-state run. The Lions are coming off a 41-31 homecourt victory over Plymouth three days ago. BHS is a team that likes to play zone defense and will hold teams to a one-and-done offensive possession. On offense, the Lions are active, looking for the backdoor in the halfcourt and offer good scoring balance. Kila Foster leads the Bremen offense at 18.0 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per outing. Emma Kincaid hits for 13.8 ppg and 5.6 rpg, Eliana Grubbs adds 8.2 ppg and 5.6 rpg . Emma Lawmaster chips in 6.6 ppg as Robinson's crew averages 56.6 ppg and allows 32.6 per outing. The Lions are 3-0 when scoring at least 56 points or more so far this season. Bremen hits 27-percent from beyond the arc, with Foster leading the way as a 34% 3-point shooter. "Bremen has 4 girls that return from the semi-state team last year," said Amor. "They want to play fast and pressure the ball. All 4 guards have the green light with Kila Foster leading the group." LaVille is led by Brooke Edison with 15.5 ppg and 6.5 steals per outing, Jasmine Foster adds 8.8 ppg and 6.8 rpg. Denni Markin chips in 7.3 ppg and 7.0 rpg. Amor is 2-1 against Bremen, while Robinson owns a 9-3 mark against LaVille. Game on ...
