South Bend - LaVille senior Brooke Edison scored a career-high 31 points as the Lancers defeated South Bend Adams, 52-34, at Hadaway's Shack. Coach Nicholas Amor's club took an 18-11 lead before the Eagles soared back to tie the score at 18-all a couple minutes into the second quarter. Amor's crew, however, went on a 11-20 spurt over the final five minutes. Edison was successful from a variety of areas on the court - driving to the basket, 15-foot jumpers - along with rebounding and defense. "The girls played a really composed first half which put us in the position to be in control for the rest of the game.," said Amor. "We handled the Adams' pressure when it counted and Brooke did a great job attacking the basket under control and finishing. She continues to lead us in scoring and a big part of that is her effort in transition and her teammates. We need to continue to find her when she's open." The Lancers also used stingy defense, holding the Eagles to just four points in the fourth quarter and well-below their season average of 48 points per game. "Defensively the girls played a great game," Amor explained about the Lancer 'D'. "Adams has some higher level shooters and we were able to shut them down and stifle their post game. I thought the girls played great team help side defense, we were able to pinch the gaps, prevented the drive and closed out on shooters. All around it was a great game for the Lancers." Ava Weil had eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the first half. Jasmine Foster chipped in with six points, all in the second half for LHS. LHS improved to 4-2 overall and travel to North Miami, Nov. 30. The junior varsity is set for a 6pm start, with the varsity to follow.
