TOPEKA - It is still early in the season and LaVille continues to jump right into the challenges that the 2024-25 schedule makers put together. The Lancers start off at state-ranked Westview December 3 before a Sports Michiana 'Game of the Week' broadcast at 2A #9 Jimtown on December 6. Both dates are set for a 6pm junior varsity tip. The varsity will follow. Westview has had LaVille's number in each of the past seven meetings. This will be the ninth meeting since 1984-85, with the Warriors leading, 7-1. LaVille is 1-6 in games played in Topeka. That lone victory was a 44-36 decision over the Warriors in the 2013 sectional championship game. Prior to 2022-23 the two teams had not met in the regular season over the past 40 years. Coach Chandler Prible's squad comes in with a 1-1 record following a 68-61 loss to Northridge on November 30. "Westview is very talented and has a lot of depth," LaVille coach Michael Edison said of the 2A #19-ranked Warriors. "They have 2 guys on their team, (Austin) Schlabach & (Kaden) Grau, who are amazing scorers! They all can pass and catch extremely well and are just natural basketball players. I would say they are one of the best teams we will play this year. It will be a very big test for us. They play a man-to-man defense where they hardly ever switch. They will most likely hawk Collin Czarnecki the entire game. Baskets will most likely be very hard for us to come by. They are a tenacious team and get their hands on the ball a lot when they are playing defense." Edison's club is coming off a season-opening 55-47 victory at Westville. Senior Collin Czarnecki led all scorers with 32 points. It was a back and forth game against the Blackhawks. Westville led 32-31 at halftime. Then, LaVille took a 44-43 advantage into the final eight minutes. In the final stanza, the Lancers flashed solid defense, forcing the Blackhawks to shoot from deep and held Westville to 1 of 11 from the field in the fourth quarter and just four total points. "It was nice to get a victory, but we need to keep getting better at boxing out, attacking the boards, and taking care of the ball," said Edison. "Westville was a solid team, but Westview is a couple of notches better as they always have solid teams and are very well coached. It will be a big test for us tonight."
