LAKEVILLE - Led by a trio of seniors, LaVille turned a close game early into a convincing 56-15 victory over rival Triton. After taking an early 10-0 lead, the Trojans battled back to within 10-7. Coach Nicholas Amor's club then went on an amazing 30-3 run from late in the first quarter into the third period to control not just momentum, but the game. "I always look at defense first and tonight our defense was high level," said LaVille head coach Nick Amor after watching his club win its third straight and improve to 6-2 overall. During the nearly 18 minutes of play, the Lancer defense held the Trojans to just 1 of 14 from the floor and forced 11 turnovers. On the offensive end, Brooke Edison, Jasmine Foster and Mikalah Kuskye led the charge as Amor's team pulled away. Edison and Foster had 10 points each during the spurt, while Kuskye added seven for LHS. LaVille was patient, shared the ball, took advantage of high percentage shots and challenged Triton defensively. Foster finished with a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots. "I really like how she's taking it strong to the basket and finishing through contact," Amor said. "That's something she's really been working on." Edison added 14 points to go along with 13 rebounds, seven steals and five assists. "Sometimes you don't know where the ball is going to end up when she's got it, but she finds the right people," said Amor about Edison. Kuskye chipped in 10 points and contributed three assists, three steals and five rebounds. Unofficially LHS finished with 10 turnovers and had 14 assists on 24 made field goals. "We really shared the ball well," Amor said. "They saw the floor really well and that made for easy layups." Amor's crew returns to Indiana Northern State Conference play Saturday as they play host to Knox. The varsity-only game is scheduled for a 6pm tip at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. LaVille, currently 0-2 in loop play, will be looking for its first INSC victory. Knox is 1-1 and look to end a two-game skid to the Lancers.
