LAKEVILLE - No matter the sport, coaches always want their respective team to get a good start. As LaVille and Argos renewed its basketball rivalry Tuesday, it was the Lancers that got off to a good start. Coach Michael Edison's club got off to a quick start and never looked back in a 75-39 victory over the Dragons at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. "We got off to a 8–0 start and hit a couple three-pointers along the way which really boosted our confidence right off the start," Edison said after improving to 2-2 overall on the young season. "I felt like we played with a lot of energy and really played hard the entire game." After three straight road games to open the 2024-25 season, the Lancers were finally back at the friendly confines and it showed. Edison watched as his club were zeroed in from the field, especially from beyond the arc. LaVille finished with a season-high nine 3-pointers and every LaVille player that logged minutes scored. "We had a lot of very good looks and knocked down a number of three-pointers," explained Edison. "It is always nice when we shoot well because then it gives us confidence in other areas of the ball game. We got better looks than we have gotten the last couple of games which also helped." LaVille turned a five point lead into a 16-point spread by halftime and continued to widen its lead to close out the third period before outscoring the Dragons by 24 points for the final margin. The Lancer trio of Collin Czarnecki, Andre Gonzales and Lance Edison finished in double figures, while every LaVille player that logged minutes scored. "I know Collin, Lance, and Andre all were in double figures and had great games for us." Edison said. "Collin finished with 23 points and had an all-around good game. Andre had some really nice passes and shot well finishing with 10 points. Lance went three for four from three-pointers and ended up with 13 points. Every single player on the team contributed significantly. I know Ryan Maenhout had a great charge at the end of the game, Jackson McNerney had a really nice pass to Collin Czarnecki in the first half, Travis Madondo was a little pest on defense and had some really nice shots. Braedyn had some really nice passes, some great defense, and some good finishes down low. Cody was very solid on defense the entire game. Avery Garrett played some good quality minutes, while getting some key rebounds. Aaron Keb had a nice three-pointer." Across the court, Argos' Luke Stults was a big presence on the court, finishing with a game-high 26 points. "Stults played an amazing game!" said Edison. "He was extremely hard to stop in all areas of the court. We had two or three guys on him multiple times and had to foul him just to keep him from scoring. He is a really nice player and did a great job!" Everyone who played for LaVille scored. "We had a lot of guys get in and rotate," closed the LaVille skipper. "Lance did a nice job. He hit a couple three's and made some nice passes. Collin did a nice job on both ends of the floor. I could go right down the list of our players to be honest." LaVille jumps back into INSC play December 14 when Knox comes to town. It will be a girl-boy doubleheader. LaVille Lady Hoops will face Logansport at 6:00 pm, followed by the guys at 7:45 pm against Knox. LAVILLE 75, ARGOS 39 At Dale E Cox Gymnasium, Lakeville, IN.
