Lady Hoops Set For Doubleheader Weekend
By Scot Shearer | Dec 13, 2024 2:24 PM
It's a GAMEDAY weekend for LaVille Lady Hoops! Following a 55-35 Northern State Conference victory over Knox on Dec 7, Coach Nicholas Amor's club will jump back into INSC play at John Glenn. The Falcons are 9-2 overall following a 71-20 victory over Mishawaka Dec. 11. John Glenn brings a balanced offense led by Addison Reese (10.2 ppg and 2.0 assists per outing) and Mia Hurford (10.0 ppg and 4.4 rebounds a game). Dani Divine (7.5 ppg), Alivia Turnage (7.3 ppg), Dre Weddington (6.9) and Calleigh Reese (6.8 ppg) also contribute to the Falcons' 48.8 offensive output. "Glenn is an aggressive team that will pick us up in the full court," Amor said of JG. "They like to trap the wings out of their 2-3 zone and let their defense get their offense going similar to us. Dani Divine and Addison Reese lead this group with their shooting and passing capabilities. Also a newer varsity player this year for the Falcons that we will need to be prepared for is Arianna Stanley. She is a strong post with quick hands defensively. We will have to keep her off the glass and attack her to try and get her in foul trouble." LaVille is also trying to pick up its second INSC win of the season. The Lancers used a crucial second-half run to upend Knox to force a three-way tie for third with Knox and Tippecanoe Valley. The Lancers have won four straight as we head into the middle of December. This is the 35th meeting since 2000-01, with John Glenn leading series, 25-9. LaVille has not won in Walkerton since a 53-50 overtime victory over the Falcons on Dec. 18, 2010. On Dec. 14, LaVille welcomes Logansport for a non-conference encounter. The game is part of a Saturday Night girl-boy doubleheader at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. The Berries come to town with a 1-8 overall record and losers of their last eight straight games. Logansport dropped a 50-35 decision at Hamilton Heights and average 32.4 points per game. Logan is led by Kellen Cripe (7.0 ppg), Colda Kitchell (6.7 ppg) and Mady Baumgardner (6.3 ppg). "Logansport will also play a 2-3 zone and attempt to pack it inside," Amor said of the Berries. "They are not the same team we have seen in the past and do not have the 3 point shooters they used to! We will need to play our game and be aggressive on the defensive end." Logan leads this short series 3-1 since 2000-01, with the lone Lancer victory coming after a 46-44 decision on December 10, 2022 at Cox Gym. Game on ...
