LAKEVILLE - It was one of those nights for the LaVille basketball team. The Lancers came out quick and came out strong, setting the tone for a 65-27 Indiana Northern State Conference victory over Knox at Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. Coach Michael Edison's crew had the more experienced ball club and its many weapons to get things clicking. LHS was able to supply 84 feet of defense during its full-court press. In the half-court, LaVille had its man-to-man help side defense working and topped things off with something that coach Edison seldom uses - zone defense. The Lancers forced the youthful Redskins into 31 turnovers, which the Lancers benefitted from 18 steals. Collin Czarnecki led the sniper attack with five. Edison's club made an early 12-0 to take control, but the gap increased as the game progressed. Czarnecki scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter as he scored on a variety of shots. Czarnecki, however, was not the only one that was having one of those nights. By game’s end, nine of 10 players added to the final total. "I felt like every single player was unselfish and was a great teammate the entire game," said Edison. "Guys were making the extra pass and making one another look good. The hustle and scrappiness was outstanding! We did a great job at taking care of the ball, even though Knox was down a little, we still played with a lot of grit." Lance Edison was next in the long line of contributors for LHS, adding 10 points. Braedyn Foster had eight, Andre Gonzalez seven and Avery Garrett six. As LaVille graduate and Knox head coach Jason Breden guides the Redskins, his team was able to get past the LHS press, but LaVille sprinted to leads of 19-6 at the end of one quarter and 41-14 at halftime. Breden's young squad included four freshmen and two sophomores among the eight players seeing action.
