HEBRON - LaVille outscored Tri-County by 17 points in the second half to defeat the Cavaliers 58-37 in the opening round of the Hebron Holiday Tournament Friday. Coach Michael Edison's club was able to get out to early leads in the first half, before Tri-County made a run to close within 27-23 at halftime. The Lancers worked the used patience in their third quarter offense and were able to extend the lead to eight points going into the final eight minutes. "We had several possessions in the third-quarter where we really made them work on defense," said Edison. "I thought that was a big key to controlling the game in the second half." In the fourth quarter, LaVille held the Cavaliers to just two field goals and six total points and pulled away for the victory. LHS hit 7 of 8 free throws to advance to the championship game against the host Hawks. "Our pressing in the first half really helped us at times as they got in a hurry up frame of mind and didn't take care of the ball very well," Edison explained after watching his team improve to 4-3 overall. "In the second quarter we started to get a little careless with the ball as well and did not execute on offense, which allowed them to get back into the game going into half. We were 11 of 12 from the free-throw line, which really helped us." Lancer guard Collin Czarnecki led all scorers with 24 points. Lance Edison and Andre Gonzales added 13 points each for LHS. Edison's crew will play Hebron December 28 in the 8 pm eastern time championship.
