LAKEVILLE - LaVille Lady Hoops got off to a fast start and played solid defense as the 60th Everwise Bi-County basketball tournament tipped off Wednesday night. Behind a ball-hawking, aggressive defense and early offense by Brooke Edison, the Lancers turned an early lead into a 40-23 victory over New Prairie. Coach Nicholas Amor's club forced 28 turnovers optimizing their ability to get deflections and apply full-court press. Edison, who finished a game-high 25 points, 13 rebounds and was the lead sniper with 9 steals, scored 9 of LaVille's 13 first quarter points, with 15 points by halftime. Denni Markin added 7 points and 5 rebounds as LHS defeated the defending Everwise Bi-County girls basketball champions. The LaVille win, coupled with Bremen's 84-45 win over Oregon-Davis in the top-half of the lower bracket, sets up a rematch from earlier this season. Bremen, which checks in at #10 in the latest ICGSA basketball poll, defeated LaVille, 68-42 back on November 22. Both teams battled before a 15-4 run by the Lions over the final 3:40 of the third period turned into a commanding 45-30 advantage. On that Nov. 22 night in Bremen, LaVille fought valiantly, but it was the Lions experience and scoring depth that was the difference in a key early season win over the Lancers. Kila Foster led the Lions offense with a game-high 19 points, including three 3-point field goals. Emma Lawmaster had 13 points, Emma Kincaid 12 and Eliana Grubbs 13 to add to the scoring depth. Jasmine Foster netted a team-high 12 points to go with nine rebounds. Brooke Edison tallied nine points, nine boards, and six steals. BHS and LaVille will play in the 8 p.m. nightcap following the 6:30 p.m. opener between Culver Community (12-7) and John Glenn (13-7). Thursday's winners will play in Saturday's championship game on January 25 at 6:30 p.m. 60th Everwise Bi-County Tournament Varsity Girls LaVille 40, New Prairie 23 Score By Quarters New Prairie 7 12 15 23 LaVille 13 20 29 40 New Prairie - Riley Ernsperger 2, Hannah Hawkins-Weisener 0, Lauren Abbott 5, Addi Luther 0, Morgan Flagg 5, Bailey Futa 1, Lilli Armato 1, Neveah Trobaugh 7, Emma Deutscher 2, Chloe Deutscher 0.
