LAKEVILLE - Throw out the records. Throw out the rankings. When it comes to the Everwise Bi-County basketball tournament the rivalry between the eight schools is amazing. In what turned out to be an instant classic for the LaVille Lancers, the January 24, 2025 second semifinal of the 60th edition of this tournament will be talked about for a long time. Coach Michael Edison's club overcame a 15 point deficit in the fourth period to win one of the best Bi-County tournament games in recent memory, 58-48, over the Bremen Lions at a raucous Dale E. Cox Gymnasium. The Lakeville hosts trailed Bremen 39-26 with 2:43 left in regulation. Over the next 1:05 off the game clock LaVille went on a 11-0 run to take a 44-43 lead when Collin Czarnecki hit a jumper with 38.5 seconds remaining. Bremen’s Tyrus Graverson hit the second of two free throws to tie the game at 44-all with 34.2 seconds left. LaVille ran off some clock before Edison called timeout to set up the final play. When Czarnecki’s fade away was short, the game was headed into overtime. Edison's crew came out of the huddle with a little more determination in their eyes as the OT started. LaVille won the tip, and, after working the ball into Braedyn Foster for a lay up on the left side of the lane, LHS set up its full court press. Czarnecki got a deflection off Bremen's inbound attempt and scored the bucket to give the Lancers a 48-44 lead under 30 seconds into the extra session. Over the next 3:30 of the overtime, LaVille's defense stepped up to limit the Lions to just four free throws in the four minute overtime. On the offensive end, Edison's bunch sank 10 of 12 free throws to seal the victory and advance to the championship game of the prestigious Everwise Bi-County tournament. "Well, we've had a couple tough losses in the last couple weeks so I know how Bremen feels," Edison said after the game. "To be able to come back with 3+ minutes to go and down 15 just shows that our guys have a lot of grit and heart. They battled the entire game and never gave up! Andre hit a couple of big threes. We got some deflections and steals and just got them in a hurry up frame of mind. Knocking free throws down was huge as well. I'm proud of our guys for not giving up and battling even when we went long stretches where we were not playing well." Early on, the Lancers had trouble with turnovers and getting shots to fall. In fact, LaVille trailed 27-13 at the intermission. Bremen then outscored LaVille 8-7 in the third quarter to take a 35-20 lead heading into the fourth period and then overtime. Edison’s Lancers put three players in double figures. Czanecki had a game-high 24 points, 17 coming after halftime. Gonzales and Lance Edison added 10 points each. Chase Devine, Bremen's outstanding guard, finished with 21 points. 60th Everwise Bi-County Basketball Tournament LaVille 58, Bremen 48 At Lakeville Score By Quarters Bremen 11 27 35 44 48 LaVille 8 13 20 44 58 Bremen - Aden Hunziker 4, Maddux Hickman 0, Hartley Mitole 5, Chase Devine 21, Turys Graverson 7, Silas Laidig 7, Riley Tener 0, Bryce Miller 2.
