KNOX - As the Indiana High School Athletic Association adds another chapter to its rich basketball history, the ladies are set to take center stage in the 50th edition of Hoosier Hysteria! The Indiana state girls basketball tournament officially gets under way with the sectional round beginning February 4 and running through sectional championships February 8. LaVille is set to participate in the Class 2A tournament at Knox High School. LHS drew a first round bye and awaits the winner of the February 4 opener between Jimtown and 2A #12 Bremen at 6:30 p.m.  Winamac will meet the host Redskins at approximately 8 p.m, with Tuesday's winners advancing to the Friday Feb. 7 semifinals.  Career Academy drew the bye in the lower bracket and will face either the Warriors or Knox in the second game Feb. 7 Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. ET is the scheduled tip for the Knox Sectional championship. According to John Harrell, Bremen is the favorite at nearly 78 percent of adding a 2A sectional trophy and second straight after 2024's 3A title.   The Lancers are picked second to win, with Winamac a distant third. The Knox sectional survivor will play the winner of the Bluffton Sectional, which according to John Harrell is the host Tigers at nearly 84%. As passionate as Indiana is about Hoosier Hysteria, only football in Texas might be as popular. Legendary players like Princeton's Jackie Young, Indiana's all-time leading scorer, and Wawasee's Shanna Zolman might not be household names to the players of today, but both scored over 3,000 career points, won the coveted Miss Basketball and, yep, both played in the Women's National Basketball Association. It's what has strolled around small towns throughout Indiana over these past 50 years of education-based athletics like the players that the young kids look up to.  Around small towns like Lakeville and LaPaz, Indiana, the history buffs remember the likes of all-time leading scorer and 1993 graduate Andie Lehr, along with 1,000-point scorers Shanan Szklarek (2000 grad), Dawn Hosinski (1987) and Kelsey McKee (2004). There will probably be a little scoreboard watching tonight.  Heck, maybe even a trip to Knox High School for Coach Nicholas Amor and his Lancer team to take in the atmosphere and get in a little scouting.  One thing is for sure, though, LaVille would like to take a shot at its Indiana Northern State Conference and neighborhood rival.  Only time will tell as the games are played and brackets filled who gets to be part of Indiana's Hoosier Hysteria!
