LAKEVILLE - Not your typical GAMEDAY as West Noble visited Dale E. Cox Gymnasium, home of the LaVille Lancers. Not typical in that it wasn't the usual evening tip. This was, instead, a Saturday matinee special. LHS and WNHS have had this ritual of Saturday afternoon games since the Chargers joined the LaVille regular season scheduled back in 2015-16. In a back and forth battle inside the 'Cox Box', the Ligonier visitors used balanced scoring to get out to the early lead. It was the Lancers, however, that used a crucial 36-20 offensive charge in the second half to pick up a 55-43 victory. "It is something different playing in the afternoon than what we normally do throughout the year," LaVille coach Michael Edison said after watching his club trail 23-19 at halftime. "I wasn't unhappy with the way we played in the first half, but I just wanted to take care of the ball a little bit better and make them earn it as I felt like they got three or four really good uncontested looks." Back to back buckets from Lance Edison teamed with a 3-point basket from Collin Czarnecki helped LHS jump in front, 27-25. The two teams continued to battle, heading into the final stanza all knotted up at 34-34. The final quarter witnessed a fine effort from the LaVille defense, allowing West Noble three field goals and three free throws for a total of nine points. "In the fourth quarter I felt like we were able to get on a nice little streak with some different shots by people to kind of get us over the hump," said Michael Edison after watching his club improve to 12-6 overall. "This was definitely a game that could've gone either way and I was glad our guys found a way to pull it out in the fourth quarter." A pair of LaVille guards stepped up on the offensive end. Sophomore Lance Edison grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and scored 11 of his career-high 18 points. Senior Collin Czarnecki netted a game-high 26 points to go with four assists and nine steals. LaVille will close out the Indiana Northern State Conference portion of the schedule with a February 14 home game against rival John Glenn. The junior varsity is set for a 6pm tip, followed by senior recognition night for basketball and cheer crew, then the varsity game.
