SOUTH WHITLEY - It's GAMEDAY and the LaVille Lancers pack the bus for their 10th road game of the Indiana high school basketball season. The Lancers travel to Whitko for a non-conference game on February 18. The junior varsity is scheduled to tip at 6pm, with the varsity to follow. Coach Michael Edison's club is 13-6 overall following a 70-23 victory over John Glenn four days ago. LaVille put three players in double figures - Collin Czarnecki 24, Andre Gonzales 18, Lance Edison 10 - to pick their 7th win in their last 8 outings. It was a new career high for Gonzales, who racked up 13 points in the first quarter and a season-high four 3-pointers. LaVille is led by Czarnecki, Lance Edison and Gonzales in scoring, while the same trio are top rebounders. LHS averages 54.6 points per game, while allowing 43.3 per outing. The Lancers are 11-1 this season when scoring at least 55 points and 10-0 when allowing 43 points or less. "Whitko runs a lot of 2-3 zone, but will also run a man to man defense," said Michael Edison, who is in his 17th season at the Lakeville, IN., school. "They've got a couple of guards who are pretty good shooters and they can be patient on offense." During the last eight games, the Lancers have held their opponent at just a touch over 39 points, while the defense is in the top 25, regardless of class. "For us, we will strive to get high percentage shots and try to pick up the defensive tempo on them to get them in a hurry up frame of mind," said coach Edison. "We also need to make sure we rebound consistently." Whitko brings a 4-14 overall mark into the contest after a 56-44 loss to Northwestern. The Wildcats bring a balanced offense to the floor. Easton Grable and Riley Harman lead the way with 9.6 points per game each, Chandler Cox adds 7.3 and Jaylen Gibson 7.2. WHS averages 44.3 per game, while allowing 51.0 on defense. Whitko is 2-5 in games played in South Whitley, while LaVille is 4-5 so far this season on the road. Game on ...
