SOUTH BEND -  As the end of the 2024-25 high school basketball regular season comes to a close, there are a few goals as the 115th edition of the IHSAA boys state tournament begins. Everyone wants to be playing their best basketball. Everyone wants to have confidence and positive momentum to begin the postseason. The above mentioned holds true for LaVille as the Lancers close the season against Trinity Greenlawn on February 27.  The junior varsity is scheduled to tip at 6pm, with the varsity to follow at the Trinity Athletic Center. Trinity is 14-6 overall following a 43-36 victory over Oregon-Davis. Nathan Palmer led the Trojans with 15 points, Ian Abbott had 13, Nathan Skendzel 11 and Justin Heintzelman added four. Coach Alex Rowland's team averages 43.5 points per game and allows 36.0 to the opposition. Trinity is 9-1 when scoring 43 or more points, and 11-1 when allowing 36 points or less.  The Trojans are the third best team in the state on defense, regardless of class. Abbott leads Trinity Greenlawn with 11.8 points per game, 3.3 steals an outing and 2.4 rebounds.  Skendzel adds 10.3 ppg, 5.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists, while Palmer chips in 8.5 ppg and 2.6 steals.  Max Busk is the leading rebounder at 5.7. "Trinity runs a really solid 2-3 zone," said LaVille coach Michael Edison.  "They are well known for running their zone against teams and really try to limit possessions and keep the game low scoring. They have a good record this year and will be difficult to beat as they are extremely well coached, disciplined, and really frustrate teams they play." Don't be surprised if Trinity attempts more 3-pointers than 2-point field goals. The Titans shoot about 30 percent from beyond the arc, with Palmer the top deep threat at 37 percent.  Trinity put up 20 triples against OD and just 12 from inside the arc. LaVille is 14-8 following a 51-50 victory at South Bend Washington just two days ago. The Lancers trailed by seven points a couple of times in the final period before tying the score at 43-43 with 2:48 left. Then trailing 50-46, Collin Czarnecki hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to close to within 50-49 with 27.2 seconds remaining. On Washington's next possession, LaVille played patient basketball and Lance Edison came up with a steal on a cross-court pass.  The Lancer sophomore scored the lay up and the defense stayed tough to pick up an exciting victory. "It was a great win we had against South Bend Washington," said LaVille coach Michael Edison, who missed his second game due to receiving two technicals at Whitko.  "Our guys really battled, did a pretty good job taking care of the ball, and I felt really frustrated the Panthers on the defensive end. We battled back in the last several minutes being seven down and found a way to win a hard fought game.  This should really give our guys a lot of confidence ..." Czarnecki led LaVille with 29 points, Andre Gonzales had 10 and Lance Edison 9. This will be the second meeting between LaVille and Trinity Greenlawn.  The Lancers picked up a 50-26 victory a year ago. LHS averages 54.1 points per game, while giving up 46.1 points per outing.  Coach Edison's club is 11-2 when scoring 54.0 points or more and 10-0 when allowing the opposition 46 points or less.
