ELKHART - When it comes down to it, basketball coaches would like to see their respective team get off to a good start, battle the opposition, handle the ebbs and flows of the game and give a good effort. On Tuesday night, LaVille played Indiana Northern State Conference foe Jimtown in the quarterfinal round of the IHSAA boys state tournament at Jerry Cook Court. Jimtown build enough of an early lead and held off several LaVille runs to pick up a 63-42 victory in the IHSAA 2A Sectional #34. The Lancers started off slow, while the Jimmies erupted for a 7-0 lead.  The LaVille deficit ballooned to 10 points before a late 3-pointer by LHS guard Collin Czarnecki narrowed the gap to 15-8. JHS big man Branden King, who worked effectively inside the paint and outside the arc, was a major contributor, scoring 10 first-quarter points. Coach Tyler Leighton's team continued from long range, knocking down three treys in the second quarter and five of six from the free throw line to up the ante to 33-17 at intermission.  Once again, Czarnecki closed out the period with a running 3-point bomb from just inside half-court as the buzzer sounded. "Jimtown shot the ball extremely well tonight!" LaVille coach Michael Edison said after the game.  "We got ourselves dug into a deep hole and it was hard to get out." LaVille made a couple of defensive stops to start the third quarter and got a lay up from Cody Allen and a left corner triple from Lance Edison to cut the lead to 11 points. Jimtown, however, answered with a 14 point run, all by King. The Jimmie forward canned three triples, a layup and an old fashioned three-point play as the JHS lead jumped to over 20 points at 50-24 after three periods. Lancer Nation enjoyed one more run as LaVille cut the lead to 17 points near the five-minute mark, but the Baugo Township hosts outscored the Lancers for the final margin. "Our guys battled the entire game and I was proud of the way they gave a good solid effort," said Lancer coach Michael Edison.  "Even though it was not our best showing." Czarnecki netted a team-high 19 points, a team-high 7 rebounds and a couple of assists.  Lance Edison added 14 points and 6 rebounds. Allen, a senior, 2 points and a couple of assists, and Garrett had a steal, but did not score. "Our three seniors in Collin, Avery, and Cody really did a great job leading this team this year!" LaVille coach Michael Edison said of his senior trio.  "Even though we fell short tonight, I was proud of the way we played the entire season.  A huge amount of credit goes to those three guys!" LHS finished the season at 15-9 overall record along with the Hebron Holiday Tournament title and the 2025 Everwise Bi-County basketball tournament trophy.
