The Indiana Basketball Coaches Association has announced its IBCA/Franciscan Health girls' all-state selections. State players have been separated in several categories, and among those chosen was LaVille senior Brooke Edison. The 5-foot, 9-inch guard earned IBCA All-State honorable mention following a fine senior season. She was also chosen as a 2024-25 INSC recently. Edison helped LaVille to a 15-8 overall record and second in the Indiana Northern State Conference. She finished her senior season by leading the Lancers with 13.6 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per outing and 6.1 steals per contest. She also added 2.2 assists a game. "It is such an honor to be selected as IBCA All-State honorable mention," said Edison. "This means a lot to me because I pushed myself every game and it’s an awesome recognition." When asked about her approach to rebounding, Edison responded, "some key factors for me rebounding was just hipping out my defender and just being scrappy to get the ball after every shot went up. Averaging 8.1 rebounds a game is a great accomplishment, but would not have been done without my teammates helping out, as well." As LaVille's lead sniper on defense, Edison credited the ability to anticipate and get deflections to come up with steals. "Playing good defense is being able to anticipate where the ball is headed to and just having the desire to get the ball after every transition," explained Edison, who finished her senior season with 314 points. "Sometimes just even tipping the ball can lead to someone on my team getting a steal and as long as the other team got a turnover that’s all I cared about." Edison spent much of the season among the states best defenders and one particular game, put together double figures in points, rebounds and steals to reach a triple-double - 19 points, 12 boards and 12 steals. It was the first-ever triple-double in the history of LaVille Lady Hoops. "Achieving the first ever triple-double for girls at LaVille was a huge accomplishment," Edison said when asked about the historic outing. "It's difficult to get multiple stats because the game isn’t all about that. I just went after the ball to get rebounds and steals along with points. I wouldn’t have been able to achieve that without the help from my teammates." Overall Edison and her seniors teammates have been the most successful the last four years, winning 56 games, the first Everwise Bi-County basketball tournament in 30 years and an IHSAA sectional title, also the first in 37 years. "We had an awesome season being 15-8," concluded Edison. "It was tough not winning any major tournaments but as a team we worked together and accomplished so much. "This is a great recognition and I’m proud of all the accomplishments!"
