GOSHEN - LaVille senior Sean Kubsch has signed to continue his academic and athletic career at Goshen College. "The two choices I had picked out were between Notre Dame and Goshen because of the academics as well as the extracurriculars," said Kubsch when asked about the final couple collegiate selections. "Taking the next step I'm going to have to focus on academics while managing my time wisely and working on bowling so I can get better. Being able to continue not only bowling but band as well in the future was a huge plus and really the reason I selected Goshen. It has great facilities for both." Goshen College plays several matches throughout the year, starting in the fall, taking a break for Christmas, then picking back up in January until March.  The Maple Leafs compete in the Crossroads League along with Bethel University, Grace College, Huntington University, Indiana Wesleyan University, Marian University, Mount Vernon Nazarene University, Spring Arbor, Taylor University and University of St. Francis. During the 2024-25 high school season, Kubsch was the number three bowler and helped lead the Lancers to a Top 10 finish at the 2025 Indiana High School Bowling state finals. LaVille finished runner-up in the sectional and regional round before grabbing one of the spots at the semi-state to bowl in the state finals. "It meant a lot to be part of LaVille bowling," said Kubsch, who is set to pick up his high school diploma in late-May.  "It showed me that if you work hard at something you will see returns. So it translated to me losing weight as well as working hard for baseball." While in high school, Sean had the opportunity to bowl alongside his dad, Kevin, a former high school bowler himself at Mishawaka Marian High School back in the 1970s, who is LaVille's head coach. "It meant a lot to bowl with my dad," Sean said as he cracked a smile.  "It allowed me to understand him better and be closer to him and my family. I've made a lot of friends because of my dad and his relationships in bowling as well." When asked about where he feels he is at in bowling, Sean said, "I feel like I do a good job of being consistent with the technique I have now but I also need to be consistently better. My technique needs to be worked on right now to take me to the next step of bowling." We also had the chance to catch up with coach Kubsch about Sean's recent signing. "As a parent you always want to see your children be successful and Sean's Mom and I both are so pleased that he is going to Goshen College where he signed his letter of intent to bowl for the Goshen Maple Leafs.  He signed his letter on Sunday." Goshen College is ranked #9 out of 94 Regional Colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News & World Report. "I've thought about it a lot lately and I am excited to go to college and be in the next stage in my life," said Sean, who plans to study criminal justice as well as minor in music.  "Goshen will bring new experiences to my life that I'm very excited for."
