INDIANAPOLIS - The high school boys basketball season might be over in the state of Indiana. But there are still a few seniors in the Hoosier State that had the opportunity to hit the hardwood at Marian University in Indianapolis last weekend. It was the Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 Senior Workout. The workout, in conjunction with the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, had two sessions. The first, from 1-3 p.m., with players primarily from Northern and Southern Indiana. The second session was made up mostly of Indianapolis area players from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Recently, LaVille senior Collin Czarnecki was selected to participate with a group of some of the best high school basketball seniors from Indiana. Players, family members, and fans gathered together at this NAIA school just north and west of downtown Indy, off Interstate 65, to watch some of the best senior high school basketball players. Marian was founded in Oldenburg, Indiana, in 1851, and moved to Indianapolis in 1937, becoming Marian University in 2009. For Czarnecki, he is the first boys basketball player to be invited to the Top 60 workout. The players are evaluated by a handful of high school coaches and staff members that will become Indiana All-Stars for the annual Indiana-Kentucky All-State Series. "I had a really good time at the Top 60 workout," said Czarnecki about the opportunity. "The drills and scrimmages both went well. It was great to compete against and be on the same team as some really great players that I had not played with or against in the past." Players were divided up into teams, with numbers and colored jerseys to drill and also play in front of college scouts. "Playing alongside the best seniors in the state was very cool," responded Czarnecki when asked about the competition. "It is awesome playing when so many good/big plays are being made. All of the players are great so every possession is tough. Also, it is sweet playing as a team with great players because the offense is electric." According to Czarnecki, "... the final decisions for the All-Star team would be made within the next week. Multiple college scouts from various levels were in attendance. I spoke with some of the coaches I had been in contact with before." And as for being LaVille's first player to participate, Czarnecki said, "The opportunity meant a lot to me. To play alongside great players and represent northern Indiana and LaVille was huge. A lot of players at the workout are from schools located more around Indy. Now, coaches and players from there are aware of LaVille and taking notice of our school." Congratulations, Collin! And, well done!
