LAKEVILLE - We are excited to team together with Jersey Mike's Subs as they sponsor a Player of the Week at LaVille High School!Coaches and LaVille Athletic Department personnel will select various student-athletes from baseball, boys golf, boys track and field, girls tennis, girls track and field, and softball. Our first recipient is LaVille softball player Alexis Owens.Owens, a junior, was nominated by coach Garrett McBride."Alexis started the season going 2 of 4 at the plate, with three runs scored and a few extraordinary defensive plays," said McBride.  "She has stepped up unprompted and has become a vocal leader as well as leading by example in how she goes about her work. She has taken time to help explain game situations, coverages and strategies to other players 1-on-1 that have questions. As a coach I don’t like to pick or name captains, but rather let them naturally come forth and Lexis is filling that role as the team captain without being asked or being recognized as a captain." When asked how the season is going so far, Owens said, "The season is going good.  We have a lot of good girls this year and we play as a team and have been focusing on some good things. So, I'm excited for the season!  " The softball team's next game will be April 9 against Washington Township.  The game is scheduled for a 6:15 pm start at Newton Park."They are a good team. It was close last year, so we are looking forward to a good game," said Owens. When she learned of the Jersey Mike's recognition, Alexis said, "I think this is awesome.
