LAKEVILLE - The LaVille softball team opened the 2025 high school season with a 32-18 loss to Mishawaka Marian at Newton Park. Freshman Grace McBride led the LaVille offense with two singles, a triple, three RBIs and four runs scored. Lexis Owens added two hits and three runs, Ema Coplen two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Misty Willyerd suffered the loss in the circle for LHS. "Overall I feel like we had a successful first game," said LaVille first-year head coach Garrett McBride. "Girls quickly understood why we put so much focus on fundamentals. Defensively we had some miscues and some errors due to our inexperience and weather conditions but we also had some great plays made by Lexis Owens. Pitching struggled but it was our first game so we will settle in as the season goes. Offensively I am very happy with how we performed. Executed some bunts. Stole some bases and took extra bases on hits and defensive miscues. Grace McBride led our offense with two singles and a triple, one walk, three RBIs and four runs scored. We scored 18 runs which put us well on our way to breaking our season goal." LaVille (0-1) returns to action on April 9 against Washington Township.
