Our Thanks To Ron Haramia, The Pilot News LAKEVILLE - Numbers are low for the LaVille High School boys golf team this spring, but the goals remain the same no matter if there are 1 or 50 players - improvement. “We continue to work on all aspects of our game to be the best we can be,” said head coach Scot Shearer. “We are not consistent in any one aspect, so each portion of the game is important.” One benefit to being part of the Lancer squad is calling Swan Lake Resort your home course. “We appreciate the facilities we are given,” continued Shearer. “(Swan Lake Director of Golf) Chad Hutsell and his crew do a fine job of rotating the entire facility to give schools a chance to use the practice area and get on the course. We want to be focused during the time we are on the course and improve each day.” Two holdovers from last year are sophomore returnees Adam Aschenbrenner and Liam Stough. Newcomers to watch are senior Jalen Heilman, juniors Riley Ort and Troy Szmanowski, along with freshman Caden Christy. LaVille is one of the latest teams in the area to begin match play, with the first competition coming on back-to-back days on its home course against Jimtown (Apr. 16), then LaLumiere and Concord (Apr. 17). Currently, there is a two-week gap before the third match (vs. Plymouth and Culver Community at Pretty Lake GC May 7), but the team is trying to schedule another match during that window. In all, the Lancers will play at Swan Lake five times and Pretty Lake Golf Club three times, including the Marshall County match (May 10) and the Indiana Northern State Conference match (May 24). “LaVille is excited to participate in the INSC with some very good competition and to have the opportunity to travel around the area to play at some fine courses and see how we fare each night out,” added Shearer. Last season, the Lancers had a gap of a little over a week between its final match and sectionals so this year, with the help of Swan Lake and LaVille Athletic Director Will Hostrawser, LV will host its own invitational during that lag time (June 3). “We were able to fill the invitational in about three days,” exclaimed Shearer. “We look forward to hosting this event with Swan Lake.” Come postseason time, the Lancers will play in the South Bend Riley Sectional at Erskine Golf Course. “I know LaVille boys golf has had some very fine golfers that have advanced in the state tournament. We just want to be playing our best at the end of the year,” concluded Shearer. 2025 LaVille HS boys golf April 16 vs Jimtown (Swan Lake) 5 pm April 17 vs LaLumiere/Concord (Swan Lake) 5:30 pm May 7 vs Plymouth, Culver (Pretty Lake) 4:30 pm May 10 Marshall County Invite (Pretty Lake) 1:30 pm May 13 vs Glenn (Swan Lake) 5 pm May 19 vs Knox/Culver (Pondview) 5 pm May 20 vs Rochester (Round Barn) 5 pm May 24 INSC Championship (Pretty Lake) TBA May 28 vs Jimtown/New Prairie (Swan Lake) 5:30 pm June 3 LaVille Invitational (Swan Lake) 10 am June 9 Sectional (Erskine GC) 9 am
