LAKEVILLE - We are excited to team together with Jersey Mike's Subs as they sponsor a Player of the Week at LaVille High School! Coaches and LaVille Athletic Department personnel will select various student-athletes from baseball, boys golf, boys track and field, girls tennis, girls track and field, and softball. Our baseball recipient this week is LaVille senior Andrew Wolford. He was nominated by coach Brian Lawler. So far this season, Andrew has pitched 13 innings, racked up 29 strikeouts through 4 games to start the season. He is also 7th in the state in strikeouts, regardless of class size, and tied for 2nd in Class 2A. When asked how the season is going so far, Andrew responded, "The season started out pretty well. We've been working hard. We opened up with that first game and then we went on to face a better team and I think that showed us some of the things we need to work on. But other than that I think we are understanding what we need to do and we just keep pushing forward and get better in practice." Like other LaVille spring student-athletes, Andrew appreciates Jersey Mike's Subs recognition. "I think this is pretty cool. We are all working hard, so I think all the guys deserve a sub. I can't ever back down from food. I'm not going to say no." Baseball returns to the diamond on April 17 against INSC rival Tippecanoe Valley.
