LAKEVILLE - We are excited to team together with Jersey Mike's Subs as they sponsor a Player of the Week at LaVille High School! Coaches and LaVille Athletic Department personnel will select various student-athletes from baseball, boys golf, boys track and field, girls tennis, girls track and field, and softball. Our girls track and field recipient this week is LaVille senior Ava Barrett-Heaton. She was nominated by coach Erin Ecker. We caught up with Ava and chatted with her about the track season, what she runs, and what is coming up. According to Ava, she does, "pretty much whatever the team and coaches need" during a meet. Being involved in field events and in running events, she usually starts a meet off in the throw events - discus and shot put - then heads to the track to help the 4X800 relay team and has been putting the mileage in lately in the 3200. "I've been putting the work in and I've been trying really hard this season," said the senior standout. "I have been consistently PRing this entire season. Discus is my favorite event." When we asked Ava about the Jersey Mike's Subs recognition, she smiled and said, "Oh I was super happy! I thought that was really cool and glad that somebody has noticed that I have been putting in some hard work in track and field. Pretty good stuff! I have been to Jersey Mike's Subs, it's been a while, but it looks like I'm going there now. Thank you Jersey Mike's Subs." The Lancer tracksters are scheduled to participate in the 2025 Indiana Northern State Conference track and field championships on Wednesday, May 21. "Conference is on Wednesday and it looks like I will run in the 4X800 relay and 2-mile," said Barrett-Heaton. Note: At Jersey Mike's Subs, we're all about quality.
